Hello, hello everyone:  Bubbies, Savtas, Grandmas, Omas, Nanas, etc. Welcome to my Bubby Blog.

I guess you can call me a Blogging Bubby.

Now first let’s be really clear.  I am a grandmother, and I am a Bubby. However, I am in fact a Bubby who is not even called a Bubby. Yes, you read right! I am an Oma. Oma  is German for Grandma.  My grandkids call me “Omi,” (a take-off of Oma or Omama).  And before you start asking me how could a nice Jewish grandmother from Brooklyn bear that her grandchildren call her Omi, and not Bubby? — I will answer your question with the following statement.

Read my book.

What book?  Well, actually the book that I wrote that didn’t come out yet, but is about to be released (in Fall 2012 by Israel Bookshop Publications)  that’s– in about 2-3 (or less, if things move fast). It’s been a long gestation period; yes, writing and publishing a book is a lot like having a baby. The planning, the waiting, the excitement, the —well you get the idea. (you don’t? Oh well…)

Back to my book. Okay, you want to know – what is the title? Well, everyone who hears about my book wants to know that right away. So….without further ado, my book is called (drum roll!) — Mazel Tov! It’s a Bubby! That is the title. The subtitle is longer than that, and I will keep you in suspense about that until the book comes out. I’ll give you a hint. It has something to do with the name of this blog. Yup! The Joys AND Oys.

So now you know several things about my book:

1. It’s about being a grandmother (hence, the title)

2. It’s about “joys and oys” – the fun part of Grandma activities, and –the not-so-fun part.

3. It’s about bragging (about our grandkids – who else?) and whining  (about other things!)- or as they say in Yiddish, “kvelling” and “kvetching”

Hmmmm. Interesting. What could be “oys” about being a grandmother? We all know it’s a huge JOY to become one.

That brings me to #4:

4. It’s about laughing,  learning and growing from the Oys (and the joys); from the Joys (and the oys);

Stay tuned for more  in my book (in a few months), AND on this blog(until then and beyond).  Day by day, or more likely, week by week  (as a busy-blogging bubby), I will write on my blog about things that are relate-able to so many women in our position.

See you next time, and thanks for following!

    I don’t know what happened to my beautiful comment from yesterday. Yes, I saw those beautiful smiles of the mother and the baby’s eyes. Very endearing. If the book is as good as the letter it will be a big hit.

  4. Omi Eva says:

    The real word or title for Grandmother is Oma, or in Germany there were a lot of Omamas.Omi is just an endearing form for lack of a better adjective.

  5. Kosher_girl says:

    Hatzlacha on the book! I’m sure you are a wonderful Omi!
