Anyone who has been following my Bubby or Grandmother blog since I began back in June 2012, will be familiar with my tagline under the main title of “Bubby Joys and Oys.” — -A Place for Bubbies to Kvell and Kvetch.
Bubby means Grandmother in Yiddish. Kvell = boast; Kvetch= vent
Yes, this blog has been my place to “kvell” and “kvetch” – to discuss and analyze together with other mothers, mothers-in-law, and grandmothers the joys and (sometimes) the “not-such-joys” of being a grandmother.
Of course we know that the grandmother and middle-aged stage of life is a fun, joyful and exciting time of life. Lots of things to “kvell” about. So many things to share with others, and be grateful about. Yes, we “kvell.” That’s what we do regarding our middle-aged hobbies and/or our pride regarding our grandchildren, for those of us who happen to have grandchildren.
That’s called the Bubby Joys
But there are other facets of middle age and even grandmother-hood (and mother-in-law-hood!) that are, let us just say, a bit annoying and disconcerting.
Hence, the “oys” – or as translated from Yiddish to English – the woes and “oh no’s” – the upsetting moments and times.
That’s when we whine and as they say in Yiddish, we “kvetch” or rant and complain. Even vent to a best friend (or on this blog).
Bubby Joys and Oys: A Place for Bubbies to Kvell and Kvetch.
That has been my title and tagline for 6 months.
Time to add a bit there. Maybe tweak it a bit.
Bubby Joys and Oys: A Place for Grandmas to Kvell, Kvetch and…..Stretch
That’s my new direction. Stretching. Growing taller. Standing straighter.
After kvetching, or ranting/whining/complaining/discussing, …..comes
Growth, stretching, moving forward and learning.
That is the best part of being a grandmother.
We have time to stretch, grow and become better people.
And as I’ve reflected back on my blog posts over the past 6 months, I’ve noticed that my categories of writing have covered:
Bubby Joys, Bubby Oys, and also lots of trying to move forward, to stretch.
My Zumba and exercise teacher will be proud. She’s always telling me to stretch and stand straight!
Go forward and stretch.
